In a world where technology is taking over our lives, a balancing act can be difficult. How do we teach kids, who are growing up in this new age with cell phones and apps, that they need to take a break sometimes? That there is a world outside of tech-games and social media?
One of our own in the community, Ellie (pictured above), has just finished reading Dot. by Randi Zuckerberg–a children’s book which happens to focus on unplugging in a tech-savvy world!
Dot is a clever little girl, well-versed in how to use electronic devices. But as the book goes on, Dot learns that we all need to reboot, recharge, and restart sometimes.
What does Ellie have to say about the book? She tells us the book is about, “Dot learning how to get off her devices and go play outside more. [It’s important] because you need fresh air.”
And is it good for kids to play on their devices all day?
Just ask Ellie: “No. They can get a headache.” And no one wants that. Watch Ellie read the first pages of Dot. below!
So what do you think? Pick up a copy of Dot. by Randi Zuckerberg for the kids, and read for yourself!
Randi Zuckerberg will be our guest speaker for The Event for Women on May 23.
